My semester-long project in Pratt's Continuing Education Advanced Interiors class focused on a design concept for a 590 sq. ft. space in a preexisting apartment in Manhattan for a celebrity client. I chose to design for Chloe Sevigny and her 1.5 year old son, Vanja. When designing this hybrid playroom + bedroom with ensuite bathroom for Vanja to be used for the next 4-5 years of his life, I wanted to focus on the concept of play and exploration as self-expression. I also wanted to bring the outdoors in to a New York City apartment, in the form of an expansive treehouse-inspired plywood structure that Vanja could sleep and play in a multitude of different ways, stimulating his physical, emotional and artistic growth.
